Hello everybody! Today, discover our new review about the series And Then There Were None.

SYNOPSIS

Period murder mystery based on Agatha Christie’s novel. It’s 1939 and Europe teeters on the brink of war. Ten strangers are invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast in southern England. Cut off from the mainland, with their generous hosts Mr and Mrs U.N. Owen mysteriously absent, they are each accused of a terrible crime. As each member of the party starts to die one by one, the survivors realize that one of them is a killer and start to turn on each other. Could one of them be the killer?

REVIEW

This TV miniserie is based on the magnificent work of Agatha Christie entitled And Then There Were None and for this reason people put very high expectations on it. In my opinion it is a series that does not do justice to a magnificent mystery book.

The narrative is not capable of maintaining a sufficient level of intrigue, with little elaborated dialogues; I expected something more in this regard. About the setting or scenery: it turns out to be somewhat disconcerting. In certain exterior scenes artificial light is used and this detail causes that at times it is not possible to place yourself in the story. At the same time, several of the scenes from the last chapter break the whole atmosphere.

The truth is that the locations are very good, but the use of special effects worsens the quality of the series. At times I have felt like I was watching a low-budget series. Regarding the performances, the actors Charles Dance (judge), Burn Gorman (detective) and Toby Stephens (doctor) stand out.

A positive point is that it does not beat around the bush or try to squeeze chapters like many other series, the three chapters fit very well with what the story is and it does not weigh you down at all.

The bottom line is that more should be expected from a production company like the BBC (which, for example, has produced series like Sherlock). Perhaps if HBO or Netflix had taken care of this series, content of a much higher level could have been achieved. Still, it is not a bad series, it is entertaining and in a way interesting, but it is far from being an excellent series.
